A Culture of Design: Newell Turner, Jiun Ho, Javier Burkle, and Patrick McBride
I’m pleased to share A Culture of Design: a panel featuring Newell Turner, Jiun Ho, Javier Burkle, and Patrick McBride moderated by Saana Baker
I had the pleasure of moderating an insightful panel at What's New, What's Next in September, where we explored the rich and varied influence of Mexican design. Hosted at the Jiun Ho showroom in the New York Design Center, our conversation touched on everything from traditional craftsmanship to contemporary reinterpretations.
The panel was packed with interesting voices: Newell Turner, a renowned editor and author, has a stunning new book on Mexican design and a second home in Mérida; Patrick McBride, grandson of the founders of the iconic Tillett Textiles, had fascinating textile stories to share; Javier Burkle, a Mexican-American interior designer, drew on the warm traditions of his home country in his work; and Jiun Ho - having collaborated with Jiun for years on his textile collections, I was especially excited to moderate this discussion. Jiun’s travels (130 countries and counting!) have brought incredible diversity to his work, and we’re currently working on a trilogy of collections inspired by Mexico.
Together, we unpacked how Mexico's cultural heritage continues to inspire modern interiors and collections, bringing depth and vibrancy into the world of design.
Enjoy!
