A Love Letter to Textiles

Founded in 2019, The Textile Eye presents a comprehensive compilation of the best in textile and surface design. Aimed at industry insiders, the quarterly report delivers straight-from-the-source access to what’s new and noteworthy in color, pattern, and texture:  gorgeously packaged with thousands of beautiful images to inspire and renew your creativity.

Built from Experience: Meet Saana, creator of The Textile Eye

The Textile Eye is creation of Saana Baker, a veteran textile designer with bi-coastal and international experience designing and sourcing upholstery, bedding, rugs, and tabletop. Over her 25 year career, she has helped craft lines for Schumacher, Barbara Barry, David Phoenix and Jiun Ho, and has acted as guest art director on more than a few licensed lines for name designers. Saana’s work has been used in the White House State Dining Room as drapery, and featured in publications such as Architectural Digest, Home Textiles Today & House Beautiful.

Saana lives in San Francisco with her husband Matt, a NASA robotics engineer. In addition to her ongoing love affair with textiles, she spends time restoring her 1890’s Victorian fixer-upper, hosting dinner parties, and experimenting with linocut and collage.

Why The Textile Eye?

The Textile Eye grew out of one of Saana’s consulting projects. In 2018, she was hired by a mill to present a report on prominent design shows Maison&Objet and Paris Deco Off. Visiting the shows in person reignited and restored her own creative vision, prompting her to think that other designers and industry professionals would benefit from that same inspiration.

“As a consultant, I help designers access their creative vision to manifest textile collections. This is a deeply inspiring process. I launched The Textile Eye to offer the same creative support to a broader audience: textile and interior designers who believe that seeing the best in design from around the world helps them do their best work.”

Each report reveals the results of exhaustive research into both up-and-coming and established artists, makers and design directors, complemented by international trade show coverage at the world’s leading interiors fairs and complete color direction. Exhibitions and archives are often spotlighted, adding depth to the reports.
